The move towards evidence based practice has encouraged clinicians to re-evaluate the evidence for many established therapies. Vestibular rehabilitation (VR) is a popular treatment for patients with motion provoked dizziness, and has received growing interest in the UK over the last ten years. This article applies the concept of evidence based medicine to published studies on VR. Although a shortage of randomised controlled trials about VR has been identified, the literature in general concludes that VR is an effective treatment for many diagnostic categories of balance disorder patient. There is a need for more of randomised controlled trials to be carried out in the future in order to establish the true efficacy of this treatment.
