Axillary lymph node involvement

p>44 patients have undergone scintimammography using both 99mTc.Sestamibi and 99mTc.Oxidronate; 23 subsequently having histologically confirmed cancer. Surgical specimens from these 23 patients confirmed axillary disease in 8, the remaining 15 being negative. Scintimammograms reported in the knowledge of conventional triple assessment were identical for both radiopharmaceuticals; giving 3 true positives (TP) and 5 false negatives (FN). The 21 patients without evidence of breast cancer were all true negative on both scintimammograms. A further 11 breast cancer patients underwent 99mTc.Sestamibi scintimammography alone. Of these only 3 had histologically confirmed axillary involvement; 1TP and 2FN from 99mTc.Sestamibi reports. Combining these results in breast cancer patients demonstrates no significant difference (5% level) between the two radiopharmaceuticals.
