Using a high dose rate Iridium 192 afterloader

Cancer of the cervix and uterus have been treated using Iridium 192(Varisource, Varian UK). Since clinical work began in 1996, 5 year cervical cancer survival data have been calculated. These are:

These data compare well with 40% from data published from a UK study and 55% from a European FIGO study. Clinical aspects of treatment planning are presented. Future developments, in line with ESTRO recommendations are outlined.
