Advantages of Regional Organisation

The advantages of a supra-Trust organisation for the delivery of diverse and complex services such as medical physics and clinical engineering are:

• A comprehensive range of multidisciplinary, cost-effective services provided locally and with minimal staffing.
• Timely and flexible provision of expert support from any specialised section of the Department where and when needed.
• Mutual support by the temporary transfer of staff among our Units to cover planned and unplanned absences of personnel as well as transient demands on services.
• Co-ordination of clinical governance issues such as audit, quality assurance management, risk management, assured competence and continuing professional development.

Funding

• Funding is primarily through a three year rolling single agreement negotiated with purchasing consortia.
• Special agreements with individual Trusts for additional services, specific to their particular needs, outside of the single agreement.

Collaboration

The Department carries out development projects alongside its routine patient services. We record, measure and disseminate the output of projects to ensure that staff at our Units are made aware of this activity and consequently encourage collaboration and prevent unnecessary duplication. In most cases projects are collaborative with clinical staff within the Trust, as illustrated here.
