The South Tyneside Unit of the Regional Medical Physics Department is based at South Tyneside District Hospital, South Shields. The hospital's main entrance is off Harton Road. The Regional Medical Physics Department is in the Ingham Wing.

Access from the south is via the A19(T); from the north via the A19(T) using the Tyne Tunnel. From the A19(T) exit east onto the A194 sign posted South Shields. At the next roundabout turn right onto John Reid Road (A1300). At the second roundabout turn left onto Boldon Lane (B1298) and pass straight on at the mini roundabout just after the Ambulance Station on the left. 75 yards further on turn right into Harton Lane and pass straight on at a mini roundabout. The hospital's main entrance is on the right.
Disembark at Newcastle International Airport. Take the Metro light rail service to Tyne Dock. The hospital is one mile away.
Take the Intercity service to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Change at Central Station to the Metro light rail service. Disembark at Tyne Dock. The hospital is one mile away.
Disembark at South Shields Bus Station. The hospital is two miles away.
South Shields is well served by public transport. There are a number of local buses which stop outside the hospital.
