Sunderland Royal Hospital

The Sunderland Unit of the Regional Medical Physics Department is based at Sunderland Royal Hospital in the Chester Wing. The nearest entrance is off Chester Road (A183). Enter the Chester Wing Outpatients building via Entrance 5. Ask for directions at the Help Desk on the right hand side of the foyer next to the Pharmacy.

Car Parking

There is parking on-site for patients and visitors. Due to extensive building work it can be difficult to find a space at peak times and roads within the site may be closed at short notice.

There is a charge for parking. Charges and availability may change at short notice. Please check on-site notice boards when you arrive.

Road

Access from the south is via the A19(T) or A1(M); from the north via the A1(T) and A19(T) using the Tyne Tunnel or A1(T), A1231 and A19(T). From the A19(T) exit onto the A183 heading towards Sunderland city centre. After two miles go straight on at the traffic lights (Chester Road, A183) then turn left just before the pedestrian crossing.

Air

Disembark at Newcastle International Airport. Take the Metro light rail service to Sunderland. There is a taxi rank outside Sunderland Railway Station. The hospital is one and a half miles away.

Rail

Take the Intercity service to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Take the Metro light rail service to Sunderland. There is a taxi rank outside Sunderland Railway Station. The hospital is one and a half miles away. Alternatively, alight at the next stop, Park Lane Interchange, for the local bus service. Several buses stop outside the hospital on Chester Road and Hylton Road. The hospital is one and a quarter miles away.

Metro

Take the Metro light rail service to University. The bus stop on Chester Road is a short walk away. Several buses stop outside the hospital which is half a mile up Chester Road.

Coach

Disembark at the new Park Lane Interchange, Sunderland. There is a taxi rank opposite. Several local bus services stop outside the hospital on Chester Road and Hylton Road. The hospital is one and a quarter miles away.

Bus

Sunderland is well served by public transport. There are a number of local buses from the city centre's Park Lane Interchange which stop outside the hospital on Chester Road and Hylton Road.
