What We Do

The Gateshead Unit based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead provides a range of medical physics services to that and other nearby hospitals, including:

• A comprehensive Nuclear Medicine service including imaging, in-vitro and therapy work.
• Cardiology investigations are an unusually high component of workload
• DEXA Reporting
• Radiation and laser protection advice
• The Unit acts as a conduit to the full spectrum of services available within the Department

Facilities

• Six rooms including on-site radiopharmacy
• Dual Detector Gamma Camera

Current Research & Development Activities

• Utility of the radionuclide bone scan in diagnosing pathology of hip and knee prostheses.
• Sentinel Node imaging in Breast Cancer and Vulval Cancer.
• Dopamine imaging in Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.
