What We Do

The RVI Unit based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and provides a range of medical physics services.

Clinical Services

• Nuclear medicine, particularly paediatric and renal investigations
• Electrophysiology of the visual system and intraoperative spinal monitoring
• Photo sensitivity testing for various skin conditions
• Laser Doppler imaging of skin to assess blood flow

Other services

• Clinical instrumentation section supported by an electronics and mechanical workshop
• Radiation protection advice
• Laser protection advice
• Advice on medical uses of ultra violet light, particularly phototherapy.
• Calibration of UV meters
• Teaching and training of medical physics staff, hospital workers, under graduate and post graduate university students
• Research and development interests in all of these areas.
