The nuclear medicine techniques used include SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) which is mainly used for investigating heart and brain disease. The bone densitometry service is provided in collaboration with the Rheumatology Department. Audiological scientists are based in the Audiology Department elsewhere in the hospital. Ophthalmic electrophysiology tests are done at Sunderland Eye Infirmary.
