Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is an effective treatment in severe depressive illness. Currently available for ECT treatment is a Neurotronic Therapy System which is a well proven unit developed by a leading hospital for its own use and now manufactured by Sycopel Scientific Ltd, an established instrumentation company.
In response to demand for a unit with less complicated settings for routine clinical use, the Mark II unit has been developed. The unit is of the 'narrow pulse' type and has the 'soft start' and 'constant current' features of the system. The system comes complete with robustly constructed, hand-held, insulated electrodes. An assembly tool is provided to allow the electrode pads to be renewed from readily available lint. The holders are manufactured in stainless steel with the polypropylene insulation and any internal cavities filled with hot-melt nylon.
Not known, but all psychiatric hospitals and centres.
Manufactured by Sycopel Scientific Limited, Washington, Tyne & Wear, UK.
