Dr Hazel McCallum of the South Cleveland Unit has made a major contribution to a project team comprising herself, a radiologist, a radiographer and an orthopaedic surgeon which has developed a new radiographic technique for investigation and follow-up of paediatric hip dysplasia and Perthes disease. This has many advantages, amongst them being a several-fold reduction of patient dose. In recognition of this work the team was awarded first prize (£4,000) in the South Tees Acute Hospitals Trust 1999 Team Award. The team had earlier been awarded first prize (£1,000) in the South Tees Multidisciplinary Janssen-Cilag Clinical Audit Award.
