An joint entry from Andy Clark, Tom Clark (Anaesthetics, NGH) and Iain Chambers won second prize in the above competition. The annual competition, organised by Hospital Doctor and sponsored by Zygomatics aims to encourage innovation by doctors and other health care professionals working within the NHS.
The competition was judged by a venture capitalist, an intellectual property lawyer, a surgeon and a Biotech entrepreneur. They were impressed with the solution to a technically demanding invention which had a clear market potential.
Collaboration with the Centre for Industrial Design (CfID) at the University of Northumbria allowed the construction of a full scale prototype instrument. Currently discussion is taking place with the CfID, the Regional Technology Centre and interested manufacturers.
