Interprise 2001

Members of the Regional Medical Physics Department displayed over 20 innovations at the County Durham Interprise 2001 on 12th & 13th March 2001 at County Hall, Durham.

County Durham Interprise 2001 was designed to encourage new business partnerships and ventures between Small to Medium-size Enterprises (SMEs). It was specifically geared to help companies who may lack the time or resources to seek out the kind of contacts an event like this provided.

Phil Byrne Chief Physicist and Head of Clinical Instrumentation in the Regional Medical Physics Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne presented 'From the NHS to industry - commercialisation of NHS innovations'.

Phil Byrne gave a brief introduction to the Regional Medical Physics Department, highlighted staff skills and outlined the Department's role in the NHS. This innovative Department has a structured approach to technology transfer, aspects of which were looked at in detail. Two successful innovations that have been transferred to industry were used to illustrate the presentation.
