It is a pleasure to report that following the award of three Institute of Physics in Engineering and Medicine (IPEM) prizes (Founders' Prize, Manufacturers' Award and Roy Ellis Award) to RMPD staff in 2004, our staff have won two of the four IPEM prizes that were awarded this year.
Emma Bowers (Freeman Unit) was awarded the Spiers' Prize for her paper Natural breathing is an efficient protocol for the investigation of baroreflex phase. Emma will be presenting her paper at the IPEM Annual Scientific Meeting in Glasgow on 9th September.
Andy Clark and Iain Chambers (Critical Care Physics, NGH) won the Manufacturers' Award for their pupilometer, a device that provides a repeatable measure of the response of the pupil to light during neurological assessment. Last year, Andy and Iain, along with Dr Tom Clarke, Consultant Anaesthetist, were awarded first prize of £7000 in the NHS Innovations North competition for their design of this device. The pupilometer is licensed for manufacture to Medical Device Management Ltd.
Our congratulations to Emma, Andy and Iain for again showing the high calibre of staff we have in RMPD.
