The Regional Training Scheme for Clinical Physiologists consists of a two year training scheme for approximately fifteen trainees a year. The purpose of the Training Scheme is to prepare trainees to be Clinical Physiologists, (Health Care Scientists) in either Audiology, Cardiology, Pulmonary Function, Neurophysiology, or Medical Physics. In these disciplines, Clinical Physiologists carry out a range of studies on patients in order to diagnose, and sometimes treat, health problems.
Participants in this training scheme are salaried NHS employed trainees (hospital based), who are expected to attend University to obtain a degree in Clinical Physiology, and who will be assessed by the appropriate Professional Body for their Clinical Skills. Trainees cannot qualify without fulfilling both the academic and the clinical parts of their training.
